DRKMTR

DRKMTR's inception is as inexplicable as the scientific phenomenon it's named after. From the humblest beginnings of stitched together 'front room' demos, the DRKMTR vortex of noise/poetry/image exploded into life.

Convention was again thrown out the window upon release of the eponymous first album in January 2012 when, having only played together in the house, Steve Nicholls (music/production) and Sophie McKeand (poetry/vocals) decided that a series of live, improvised shows were what the world needed. Andy Garside's vision of a wall of old TVs was also made manifest. This monster continues to scare the shit out of venues and techies, but provides a great canvass for the live VJ sets, which the crowd love – and that's what matters.

The realisation quickly dawned that more live noise was essential so Sophie Ballamy (bass) and Steff Owens (drums) were hijacked into joining; they are locked in Steve's garage when not playing. This is also why the live sets sound nothing like the original album, but at least listeners get a nice surprise when they arrive home.
